Key Objectives
The objective of the project s to support the National Meteorological Agency of Ethiopia engage with and provide training to agricultural extension agents and agricultural experts to assist them to provide better practical knowledge of agro-meteorological services and applications to farmers in order to improve farming practices and increase or secure agricultural production.
Key Activities
1. Institutionalizing the relationship between NMA and Agricultural Extension Services for delivery of weather information;
2. Training of Trainers for Agricultural Extension Workers;
3. Roving Seminars in different agro-climatic regions of Ethiopia;
4. Distribution of Rain Gauges and Training of Farmers in their use;
5. Post Evaluation in a sample of the villages serviced by the trainees from the Agricultural Extension Services;
6. Review of farming practices and impact of seminars on farmers’ behaviors / crop success and
7. Meeting with other RF grantees to share experiences, lessons learned and progress to date

Expected Outcomes
1. Links between the agricultural extension sector and the NMA of Ethiopia for provision of weather and climate information services to the farming community.
2. Raise the awareness of the agricultural extension services about the current advances in the provision of weather and climate information for facilitating operational decisions in farming.
3. Improved risk management guidance tools for the farming community.
