Much of the investment required to adapt to climate change must take place in urban areas. Two points are becoming clear regarding the challenge of adapting to climate change: the total bill is going to be enormous, and much of the investment required will have to occur in urban areas. The World Bank recently put the global costs of adaptation at US$70 to 100 billion a year for 2010 – 2050 (World Bank 2010c).
